I hadn’t been down to the farm in several weeks thanks to a bout of pneumonia that I seem to be finally getting over. This weekend though, it was supposed to snow, and we wanted to make sure things were ok and the heat was working well and none of the roofs or gutters were having trouble, so we traveled down on Saturday morning expecting it to snow overnight. That’s not exactly what happened. It did snow but it started Sunday late morning and by 3 we figured out that if we didn’t get out and back to the old house we might not get back at all—not a terrible thing except that my daughter is supposed to be back on Monday and not being able to get her is a complication.
So we did some house stuff. We finally — FINALLY — got the faucet installed in the first floor bath and it doesn’t even leak. Everything does, however, smell like sulphur when we run hot water. We know the fix but the way the hot water tank was installed makes it an impossible DIY. I called the number on the tank and have a connection to an actual person so maybe we’ll have someone to come and service the system soon. Until then, no showers for me at the farm because yuck. What a smell.
I got some work done on the space under the stairs and almost completely have the giant hole patched up. I am hoping that by next time I’ll be able to get the space fully primed and ready for wallpaper.

I don’t know man. This space under the stairs project is taking way more time than it should.
We also put together the final bookcase and moved the piano to the library/music room. It’s kind of amazing that this is the room that will be done first. But here we are. I’m kind of loving it and can’t wait to bring more books over.

In this photo it’s kind of clear that there’s a sticker on the back board that represents the top of the bookcase. Having now done three of these, I can attest that this is demonstrably false. The sticker belongs at the bottom. If you set the sticker at the top then the pre-punched holes for the center nails do not line up with the center shelf. Quality Assurance is a lost art form.
Anyway, here are some photos of that.

Oh yeah I got to go to my first Waffle House ever. Hey they have more than just waffles! I didn’t know that! Is that ridiculous? Ok that’s stupid. IHOP doesn’t just have pancakes. Why would… ok look I’m originally from NYC what do I know.
It did eventually start snowing and it was a lot. We eventually decided that we needed to start back before the polar vortex hit the area and made the traffic stupid.
The traffic was already stupid. We made it home.
Have some more photos.
