I went down on Friday night to escape the world. I stopped at Sheetz and for the first time ever got a terrible terrible sandwich from them. Such disappointment. Who taught that guy to make a sandwich? I also picked up some grapes and cheese for breakfast and some drinks and then made it the rest of the way to the house.
It was so dark. I couldn’t remember where the light switches were and it took a bit of time to get something turned on. But I got some light and then emptied a few things from the car, then ate half of the aforementioned terrible sandwich and went to sit on the side porch facing the farm for a while.

It was very dark and quiet and I could hear the bugs and see the stars.
It was cold and I eventually went inside and set up the squishy chair/mattress for bed and I went to sleep. The house was loud. It got windy and there were many creaks, and I could hear the wind chimes going like crazy. I eventually turned on the heat and the heater sound drowned out the other sounds of the house.
I woke up with the sun because there were no curtains in the room where I was sleeping. I ate my grapes and had a cold Dunkin coffee from the Sheetz but the cheese was super dry and icky so that’s all I ate. There was a mirror in one of the bathrooms that was grey and didn’t match anything and I wanted to paint it black and bronze so I spent the early morning doing that on the porch. It came out really well and I’m so happy with it.

Then I went to work putting up the new curtains.
Kyle texted and said he was on his way. When he showed up he was without the kids and with a hot cup of coffee. The kids had decided they didn’t want to help today so he left the older one to watch the younger one, gave them a list of chores, and shut down the WiFi. We sat and he had his breakfast and I had my coffee and we went over our list for the day. We finished emptying out both cars and got back to work.
He helped me put up a curtain rod over the sliding door in the living room and I finally got the rest of the curtains up.
He went to go work on figuring out how to change the filter in the water filter system and I started to pull off the edge piece for the kitchen floor but the screws were rusted in. WD-40 to the rescue. Plus a lot of elbow grease too. It took entirely too much effort to get them out, only to be completely disappointed by the floors being just layers of crappy plywood. Dammit.
We also put together the shop vac so I could get the rest of the mess from pulling out the floor in the laundry room sucked up. It was its own adventure but we got it put together and the room is just about ready for new quarter round and finishing.
We went for a walk around the whole property and I did some plant identification that may or may not be correct. If anyone is a plant ID expert who might want to come down to help that would be cool. We also figured out some things like the best place for the duck pond and what space is going to be for the chickens. The small existing garden had some ripe tomatoes so I picked them.

Then Janice got there! We gave her a tour of the house and she had some cool ideas and she is going to make me a stained glass for over the sliding door which is *amazing*

While she was there Kyle did get the water filter set up and it was much more complicated than it should have been. Need to call the company and see if there is a better way.
We are going to have to bring in a professional on the wood stove.
Then he took a shovel and went to work pulling mulch away from the sides of the house because yeah, let’s just have a wood house and then add more wood so the wood destroying insects just come for the feast.
Eventually we were too tired to continue. Janice went home, we told the kids to eat the leftovers that we had told them to eat for lunch but they didn’t, and we found a local place for dinner, then went home.
No donuts this time. Some disappointments but the great room is looking so beautiful with the curtains.
